Yawn. No wonder my mother never let me eat sweets at night. They play havoc with sleep. And having eaten copious amounts of cake and buns at 10.30pm last night I should know.

The Great British Bake Off in Battersea last night was deemed a success by its two entrants/judges/consumers. The Husband managed a light, fluffy sponge and I managed some well risen but wonky Chelsea buns.

First up, the coffee and walnut cake (the walnuts had gone walkies):

Second up, the Chelsea buns:

And we stuck to some very traditional rules and didn’t so much as glance at a Magimix the whole evening. Or a glass of wine.

I noticed on your website you have an editorial about the Great British Bake-Off and that you enjoyed the last series.
We are actually beginning to start production on series 2 now and it would be great to place a shout-out on your webpage for amateur bakers to apply for the next series. Please feel free to apply yourselves as well.

    Kind regards and best wishes
